About us

This website was originally started as a way for me to have an online resource to know what I had in my collection. A collection that I started in 1999. The first piece I purchased was a real photo postcard of the Salem Teachers School. However I had received some old pieces from family before I had focused solely on Salem stuff. Many of the pieces in the collection have never left Massachusetts. The items in the collection come from numerous sources eBay.com, Yard Sales, Family, Junk shops and just about anywhere I could think to find things.

If I had to choose what my favorite piece was in the collection, not including family pieces, I would say one of my copies of Arthur B. Jones' The Great Salem Fire. It was given to fireman Arthur R. Kimball from fellow firemen of Hingham fire department company A.

The web site went on line as www.salemarchives.org on February 6, 2004. Prior to that it was at one of the myriad free web hosting services.

The mission statement for the collection is "Preserving the past and present for the future". Meaning that I believe that everything needs to be preserved both the old and the new if one is to learn in the future what Salem was.

Thank you,
Paul Plecinoga,
Collector
